About Me

I am Rufus, an author and advocate for all things bitcoin.

Formerly an Economics teacher at YK Pao school in China, I have since moved on to more meaningful endeavours, working full time in the bitcoin ecosystem.

In the last six months I have:
  • Set up a Bitcoin club in China (as far as I know, the only one that exists.)
  • Graduated from PlanBnetwork's biz school
  • Done a project with Jan3 as an analyst, conducting a research paper on bitcoin mining pools under the tutelage of Samson Mow.
  • Founded BitcoinMentor.uk - an orange glove service with the aims of helping people navigate the complexities of self-custody.

Why Bitcoin?

Now i'm done trying to shove credentials in your face, I would like to briefly share my journey into Bitcoin, and why I felt compelled to leave my job to evangelize "magical internet money" full time.

For most of my formative years, I was completely apolitical. I shared the same disinterest in politics as many of my Gen Z peers, born out of a resignation that despite all the politicians of our lifetime being catastrophic failures, the status quo was not changing anytime soon - and we might as well just get on with other things. Despite choosing to do an economics degree - I had very few opinions that strayed from those you would see on a BBC headline.

The problem with Bitcoin, is once you take the time to understand it, there really is no going back. This lightbulb moment happened to me after I had already owned bitcoin for sometime, a decision I stumbled upon based on the good recommendation of family and friends. My dad (a maxi long before me), strongly recommended I read "The Bitcoin Standard" so I fully understood the investment I had made. Eventually I gave in. I'm sure you can see where this is going.....

It greatly saddens me that I learnt more from that one book, (with a special mention to "bitcoin is venice" which I read around the same time), than I had done in my three years in university. Although I feel blessed to have discovered bitcoin, many of my course friends, who have racked up the same £70,000 student loan debt, will not get so lucky.

I am a part of the first generation that are projected to have a lower quality of life than their parents. Many friends, whether they went to university or not, are unable to find a job. Owning a home, starting a family, and finding a purpose seem increasingly difficult as a result of a very broken system. And the problem is, once you discover bitcoin, it becomes your duty to show everyone else the exit door.

With all that in mind, that is why I felt I could not continue as an Economics teacher - perpetuating the lies of an broken system - but rather, should begin educating people about the new one.

Hope this blog helps!
